U.S. politics is stepping forward more often towards inclusion and diversity within their representatives and candidates. Even though current American political and social rhetoric is spinning around racism and intolerance led by President Trump, the pro-LGBT vote is evident in some American states.

This time, lesbian candidate Lori Lightfoot was elected as Mayor of Chicago, making her the first black woman and first openly LGBTQ+ person to hold the position in the windy city. Lightfoot was accompanied by her daughter and wife when announcing that she was the winner of these elections.

In her first run for elected office, Lightfoot, 56, emerged as a surprising leader in the race after preliminary votes were cast in February this year. At the time there were 14 candidates on the ballot to succeed Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who decided against running for a third term.

Local and National media rapidly broadcasted the news about the new elected Chicago mayor, who has always been in favor of the protection of victims by police abuse, mostly black youth who have been victims of several shootings perpetuated by police. She has also promised that she will fight criminal gangs and drug traffic in one of the states where related criminal levels are amongst the highest in America.

We are sure that this year it will be a turning point for Chicago under Lightfoot’s watch.

Estamos seguros que este año marcará la diferencia en Chicago con el mandato de Lightfoot, quien asegura combatirá las pandillas y el tráfico de drogas.
